This error occurs after a system crash and can be easily fixed by using outlook resetnav option which clears and regenerates the Navigation Pane

Workaround
Start -> Run -> Outlook /resetnavpane
After you execute the resetnav switch Microsoft Office Outlook will launch with out problems.
If this workaround still does not work for you, you can create a new profile from the beginning.

Yes it works and tested with Outlook 2007. If this does not work for you try to create a new profile and import your mails and contacts from backup.

THANK YOU!!! I came across your tip but yours was different from the others that stated after RUN > outlook.exe/resetnavpane. So I tried with your tip using outlook(space)/resetnavpane. Bingo! It works.

Fantastic, I am not very good with IT and was at a total loss after a power failure caused a UPS to fail before the computer could shut down. Outlook was open at the time of the power failure and when I tried to start outlook again after power was restored it refused to open !!! Your remedy is a life safer I used in with outlook 2007 Thanks!

Great! Good Tip!
Fisrt day with Windows 7 (a good performance) and W/Update gave me many Office updates. Boom… blue screen. Thought of Murphy.
Then the Outlook cannot start message. What a relief that this tip worked. Thanks. -Eric
